Policy Number: 5113
Adopted: June 15, 2024
Last Revised: August 1, 2025
Philosophy
Regular school attendance is essential for student success. The Mayton Lyceum School District believes that consistent attendance directly correlates with academic achievement and the development of responsibility.
Compulsory Attendance
California Education Code requires all students between ages 6 and 18 to attend school regularly. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring their children attend school daily and arrive on time.
Excused Absences
The following reasons constitute excused absences:
- Personal illness or medical appointment
- Death of an immediate family member
- Religious holidays or ceremonies
- Court appearances
- Other reasons approved by the principal
Reporting Absences
Parents/guardians must notify the school by 9:00 AM on the day of absence. Upon return, students must provide written verification of the absence signed by parent/guardian.
Tardy Policy
Students arriving after the designated start time are considered tardy. Excessive tardiness may result in disciplinary action and loss of privileges.
Truancy
A student is considered truant after three unexcused absences or three tardies exceeding 30 minutes. Truancy may result in:
- Parent conference
- Referral to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB)
- Referral to the District Attorney's office
